A knee MRI scan (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a non-invasive imaging test that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the structures inside your knee. It helps diagnose injuries or conditions affecting ligaments, tendons, cartilage, bones, and soft tissue.

You may need a knee MRI if you experience:

Not at all. A knee MRI is completely painless. You’ll be asked to lie still while your knee is positioned in the scanner. The scan usually takes 15–30 minutes, and you’ll be able to communicate with the radiographer at all times.

There’s no special preparation required. Just wear comfortable clothing and remove any metal objects before the scan. If you have a pacemaker, metal implants, or are pregnant, please let us know before booking.

You’ll typically receive your results within 3–5 working days. Your scan will be reviewed by a Consultant Radiologist, and we can share the report directly with your GP, consultant, or physiotherapist.
